Information
Call of Legends released as a main expansion on February 9, 2011. Call of Legends featured Legendary Pokémon that appeared as Pokémon LEGEND throughout the HeartGold & SoulSilver Series, they also received Shiny Secret prints that originated from the Japanese L-P Promotional cards. Many cards in the set are reprints from the HeartGold and SoulSilver Series with new exclusive artwork not found in Japanese sets. All Basic Energy cards were only included as Reverse Holofoil.
The expansion was originally released as part of the "Call of Legends Series where it was the only entry. However, Promo cards from the set's blister packs were still part of the HGSS Black Star Promos. By May 2013, the official website had begun listing the expansion alongside the HeartGold and SoulSilver Series, which it continues to do to this day.
Despite launching as a main expansion with booster boxes and theme decks; the expansion retains its unique series code (COL1). This characteristic was also typical among special expansions released prior to special expansion series codes being standardized in the Sun and Moon Series. This leaves the expansion's status within the HeartGold & SoulSilver Series ambiguous, as the set does not have a series code from the HeartGold & SoulSilver Series and has characteristics of both main expansions and early special expansions.
